    Howdy Folks,

Here's your weekly calendar so you can plan a fun week:  weekly events March 3-10.pdf

A special highlight for the coming week is the 2018 Kachemak Bay Science Conference at Islands and Ocean Visitor Center March 7-10.  What's special is that the intended audience is US--the public--not other scientists.  So come learn some fascinating things about the place we live.  And registration is FREE!  Get more info at:

And don't forget about the meeting to learn more about local transportation planning (including things like taxi vouchers).  The drop-in open house about local transportation planning is on Monday, 4-6 pm, at the City Hall Council Chamber.  Contact TRAILS if you need a ride!

    Howdy EveryBODY!

This week's calendar ends in March--so spring equinox is only 3 weeks away!  Longer daylight means more time for enjoying outdoor activities--and TRAILS will soon begin Wednesday Walkabouts again!  Check out this week's calendar right here: weekly events February 24-March 3.pdf, and go get some sun on your face.

And here are two IMPORTANT HEADS UP announcements:

    • Did you use CARTS* vouchers?  There's an IMPORTANT TRANSPORTATION MEETING MARCH 5 for everyone interested in a Local Transportation Plan.  CARTS is holding a Community Open House Monday, March 5, at Homer City Council Chambers to talk to the public about developing a Homer area transit plan (here's the flyer:  CARTS Open House Poster_Homer.pdf).  Drop in between 4 and 6 pm to talk with CARTS planning team members.  Gather your friends, arrange shared rides, and head on over!  (Call TRAILS if you need help with a ride to this meeting.)  Being able to get from here to there when you need to is FUNDAMENTAL for all of us.  For more information, call CARTS at 907-262-8900 or 951-784-1333.  Or call ILC.
    • If you've signed up for the TRAILS TRAIN TRIP scheduled May 4-6 (here's the flyer: Spring Train Ride to AK Heartland May 4-6.pdf and want to get 50% off the train fare based on having a disability, call TRAILS as soon as possible!  We'll give you paperwork for your licensed health care provider to sign.  Once your paperwork is signed, we'll send it to the Alaska Railroad--by mid March if possible.  (We want to be sure disability-based discounts get processed in time.)

    *   (CARTS stands for Central Area Rural Transit System.)

A couple of FREE special events are worth noting this week at the Pratt Museum:

    • Thursday evening, 6-7:30 pm--there will be a “Lighted Forest” on the trails behind the Pratt.  The event is sponsored by the Kachemak Bay Running Club, but you don't need to run to enjoy the lights--just stroll the trails--and finish with refreshments at the bonfire.
    • Friday evening, 6-7 pm--With its 50th anniversary coming up, the Pratt Museum is opening its "Curators’ Closet."  Collections staff will highlight some of their favorite things from the closet and share things the community values.

    Happy TRAILS!
