It's National Estuaries Week September 15-22! Not everyone has estuaries out their door, but we do--Beluga Slough, Anchor River, Fox River Flats--to name a few! We love our estuaries—they produce so many of the fish we catch (especially salmon), the birds we watch, the food that feeds all kinds of marine and coastal critters! And they’re beautiful, to boot. Join Kachemak Bay Research Reserve to celebrate Estuary Week on Friday, September 21, at Bishop’s Beach—and before that, enjoy a Wednesday slideshow about local estuaries. This year is special because it’s the 20th anniversary of our own Kachemak Bay becoming part of the National Estuarine Research Reserve Program.
And there's lots more to do this week (including a chance to help count Beluga whales and LIVE opera in HOMER!) Check out more events in this week's calendar right here: weekly events Sept 15-22.pdf
